This was my first commissioned art piece! I’m a regular at one of the coffee shops involved, and the owner was kind enough to give me my big break as it were and ask me to design this poster for them.
As a mostly traditional artist I learned a lot from this project in terms of translating my work in digital form. Working with clients made me very grateful I have spent time in art school, because it has made me able to adapt my creative style to another person’s goals, vision and requirements.
Since there were so many coffee shops involved, I had many opportunities to see my artwork around town. It was a surreal experience. Every time I saw the poster up in a different space I would squeal in delight. Being able to design this poster also gave me a huge sense of purpose while I was out of school and dealing with some pretty scary and uncertain health issues. It was incredibly healing for something that I created during an isolating time to be out in the world, being interfaced with.
